Anton Wurz

Anton Hans Würz (born July 14, 1903 in Munich ; † December 1, 1995 there ) was a German composer and musicologist with a research focus on operetta .

Life

Würz was the nephew of the music editor Richard Würz (1885–1965). He studied with Adolf Sandberger at the LMU Munich and received his doctorate in 1927 with the dissertation Franz Lachner as a dramatic composer . He worked u. a. as a music speaker at the Bayerische Staatszeitung . Later he was mainly used as a lexicographer and wrote various articles about musicians and composers for the NDB . One of his most important publications is the operetta lexicon, which was first published in 1936 and has often been revised later.

Anton Würz wrote for the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik and the Nazi magazine Musik im Kriege .

When the Schwabing Art Prize was awarded in 1969, Anton Würz received the honorary prize .

Würz's estate is kept in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek .
