Journeyman's Examination (Germany)
In the recognized training occupations of the trades in Annex A and Annex B of the Crafts Code, journeyman's examinations are carried out in accordance with Section 31 of the Crafts Code (HwO) .

The journeyman's examination is intended to determine whether the examinee has the professional ability to act . Traditionally, the trade journeyman exam consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part consists of a written test of knowledge and skills in the field of economics and social studies . In the practical exam, the journeyman's piece or a work sample is made.
Today a more holistic , action-oriented examination approach is pursued, which aims to determine the professional competence (planning, performing, controlling) of the examinee. For this purpose, the main committee of the Federal Institute for Vocational Training issued recommendations for the design of the examination requirements .

According to § 33 HwO, the examination is carried out by an examination board of the responsible body in accordance with the training regulations and the examination regulations. Responsible bodies are i. d. Usually the chambers of crafts , which can delegate this task to the "local" guilds. The management of the examination board is then often taken over by the district craftsmen. The examination board decides on the admission to the examination, the assessment of the examination performances and ultimately on the passing of the examination.
Passed the exam

After passing the examination , the journeyman's examination certificate is handed over , often as part of an acquittal , which is a prerequisite for many professional activities in other branches of industry. Awards
As part of their vocational training, the best candidates at guild level are honored as the best. Theoretical and practical work is used to award candidates. This is followed by the Chamber of Crafts level with the Chamber Winner. In a further round, the state winners are determined, who usually receive certificates of honor from the respective minister-presidents of the federal states. Then the national winner will be determined from the list of state winners. He receives a certificate of honor in gold from the German Chamber of Crafts. The patron of the competition is the respective German Federal President .
The national winners can receive scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation in order to complete their training at universities and colleges as part of the promotion of highly gifted students.
The national winners often also take part in international professional competitions such as WorldSkills .
