Viktrizius Weiß (born December 18, 1842 in Eggenfelden as Anton Nikolaus Weiß; † October 8, 1924 in Vilsbiburg ) was a Bavarian Capuchin whose beatification process has begun.

Life

The day after he was born, he was baptized in his parish church. He was descended from a family of dyers and his father was a doctor . In 1853 he entered the Latin school in Landshut and graduated on July 26, 1861. In 1855 his father moved to Landshut. The following November he began his studies at the University of Munich in philosophy , history and the natural sciences . In the fall of 1862 he entered the Freising seminary . He was ordained a deacon on March 8, 1866 and a priest on June 29, 1866. His first Mass he celebrated on July 29 in St. Jodok to Landshut. On July 13th he was appointed coadjutor of the parish of St. Ursula (today: St. Sylvester) in Schwabing near Munich . On February 22, 1869 he received a scholarship, lecturer in preacher training and prefect for the students at the seminary in Freising. On July 20, 1871, he received his doctorate in theology from Munich University.

On August 20, 1875, he was dressed in Burghausen with the name Viktrizius. Exactly one year later he made his profession there. Four days later he was transferred to Eichstätt . In August 1878 he returned to Burghausen as a novice master . In 1879 he made his perpetual profession. In 1880 he took on the same task in Laufen. In August 1882 he became vicar and magister of the clergy in Eichstätt. In August 1883 he was sent to Laufen as a guardian and assistant to the novice master. On July 29, 1884 he was elected provincial in Altötting and on August 9, 1887 he was re-elected. In 1886 he took over the convert Maria Hilf near Vilsbiburg . In 1889 he founded the Seraphische Liebeswerk with Father Cyprian Fröhlich . In 1890 he negotiated the takeover of the Mariahilf monastery above Passau and stayed in Altötting as an instructor for the lay brothers after the end of his tenure . In August 1891 he went to Burghausen as guardian and master of the Terziar clergy. In 1892 the Seraphic Seminary was founded in Burghausen. On August 23, 1893 he was elected provincial again in Altötting. On April 21, 1894, brother Konrad , who was later canonized, died and he presided over the funeral. In 1895 the Bavarian Capuchins began missionary work in Chile. On August 5, 1896, he was confirmed as provincial. In 1897 they took over the St. Joseph Monastery in Munich-Schwabing. After his term in office he went to Neuötting in 1899 as an instructor for the lay brothers , and in August 1900 to Eichstätt as a guardian and master of the clergy. In August 1902 he was elected definitor by the provincial chapter . He stayed in Eichstätt. In August 1903 he became vicar in Karlstadt am Main. On August 8th, he was elected provincial superior in Altötting for the fifth time. In 1907 the St. Ingbert monastery was taken over and in 1908 the parish of St. Joseph in Munich-Schwabing. On August 4, 1908, his term of office ended and he was transferred to Vilsbiburg. He died on October 8, 1924 and was buried on October 8 by Bishop Anton von Henle .

After his death

On October 19, 1927, his body was transferred to the Mariahilf pilgrimage church in Vilsbiburg. On April 25, 1935, the episcopal beatification process was opened in Regensburg. In 1953 the apostolic process for beatification began in Regensburg. On May 10, 1979, he was awarded the heroic degree of virtue in a decree . Pater-Viktrizius-Weiß-Straße is named after him in his place of birth Eggenfelden .
