Franz Anton Henele , from 1901 Knight of Henle , (born May 22, 1851 in Weißenhorn , † October 11, 1927 in Regensburg ) was Bishop of Passau from 1901 to 1906 and Bishop of Regensburg from 1906 to 1927 .

Life

Anton Henle was born the son of an innkeeper in Weißenhorn in Swabia . He attended grammar school in Dillingen and was ordained a priest in 1873 ; he was then chaplain for four years and then episcopal seminary prefect in Dillingen . In 1884 he received his doctorate in theology at the University of Munich , where he also obtained his habilitation in the New Testament in 1887 . He then worked as a private lecturer .

Prince Regent Luitpold appointed him cathedral capitular in his home diocese of Augsburg in 1890 . Their bishop Petrus von Hötzl assigned him the office of vicar general in 1895 .

Just one day after the death of Passau Bishop Michael von Rampf , Henle was appointed as his successor by the Prince Regent. Pope Leo XIII. confirmed the appointment in the consistory of April 15, 1901. He was consecrated as a bishop on June 16, 1901 by the Archbishop of Munich, Franz Joseph von Stein ; Co-consecrators were the bishop of Augsburg , Petrus von Hötzl , and the bishop of Würzburg , Ferdinand von Schlör .

In addition to his membership in the CV , Henle was also an honorary member of the Catholic student associations Ottonia and K.St.V. Albertia Munich in Munich in the KV .
