On March 11, 1673, on the recommendation of Emperor Leopold I, he was elected Prince-Bishop of Passau. In 1676 the prince-bishop married the emperor with the Bavarian princess Eleanor of the Palatinate in the newly built cathedral in Passau . In 1683 he accepted the emperor, who had fled from the Turks with his court, in Passau and was finally appointed by the emperor as the emperor's ambassador to the Reichstag in Regensburg in the same year . He held this office for four years.
