George I (Lavant)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg I (* before 1483 ; † 1486 ) was Bishop of Lavant .

Georg was appointed Bishop of Lavant by the Salzburg Archbishop Johann Beckenschlager . Due to the Hungarian wars between Emperor Friedrich III. and King Matthias Corvinus he could never take possession of his diocese and died before that. Nor should he have had much interest in taking over the diocese, which was in the war zone, and so the Lavant diocese was administered by the abbot of St. Paul Abbey in Lavanttal at that time . The exact date of death of Bishop Georg and the location of his grave are not known.
