The ruins Raipoltenbach is a small rural castle in the cadastral Raipoltenbach in town Neulengbach in Lower Austria .

history

It is very likely that this was built at the end of the 13th or beginning of the 14th century. Around 1500 the castle is called owned by the Zirckendorfer.

Other owners:

  • 1512 David von Trauttmansdorff
  • 1541 Litscher von Ranzenbach
  • 1571 Leopold Khainacher
  • 1620 Andre Thonradl
  • 1654 Sebastian Freiherr von Pötting
  • 1667 the Counts Palffy on Neulengbach

Since that time Raipoltenbach was united with the rule Neulengbach , and shared the change of ownership there. In 1683 the castle was probably devastated by Turkish troops. According to tradition, the final decay was triggered by imperial soldiers who stormed a robber's nest here. The castle building and the walls were then used so thoroughly as a quarry for the construction of their houses by the surrounding population that nothing was left except for the towers. In 1931 the Princes of Liechtenstein sold the Burgstall to the local innkeeper Neumann.

investment

Today the former castle area serves the small community as a sports field. Only three of the four round corner towers of the former castle complex have been preserved in a ruinous state.

literature

The author Fritz Habeck created a literary monument for the castle in his historical novel "The Battle for the Barbacane".
