Raymund Ferdinand from Discounta
Count Raymund Ferdinand von Discounta (born February 4, 1669 in Gorizia , † October 25, 1722 in Passau ) was the 67th bishop of the Diocese of Passau .
The son of a noble imperial chamberlain and head stable master had been a member of the Passau cathedral chapter since 1688 and held the position of chief cellarer . In 1693 he was ordained a subdeacon , and on June 5, 1700, he was ordained a priest .
From 1705 to 1708 he was pastor in Hartkirchen . On January 18, 1713, the 43-year-old was elected Prince-Bishop of Passau, followed by papal confirmation on September 18. Discounta had a hospital built from its own resources in 1714. He downsized the court and reduced the debts of the diocese. The New Residence was also built during his tenure .
In contrast to his predecessor, he concentrated on pastoral care . He promoted popular missions and the formation of priests . In the Lower Bavarian Forest he drove the settlement forward and founded the parish of Breitenberg there .
His remains are buried in the bishop's crypt in Passau Cathedral.
