Theodor Siers (born April 2, 1910 in Celle ; † November 6, 1991 ibid) was a German chess composer and author in chess .

Chess composition

Siers received inspiration for chess composition in 1925 from his high school teacher Paul Paschke, who provided him with literature. He created his first task in June 1927. However, this three-man was only published in the German Chess Newspaper in February 1930 . Siers went public for the first time with a Dreizüger, which was published in the Hannoversche Kurier on November 13, 1927 and which was later included in the FIDE album . He composed a total of 300 to 350 exercises, including some two and three-moveers, but mostly multi-students. He liked to build tasks that enable White to chess with the knight. This motif was later referred to by experts as the Siers-Rössel or Siers-Batterie .

Several of his assignments were recorded in the FIDE albums, getting him 22.5 points. For this he was awarded the title of FIDE Master for Chess Composition in 1990.

Mate in 3 moves

Template: checkerboard / maintenance / new

This three-move shows the Siers-Rössel .

Solution:
You can recognize the idea of this topic if it was Black's turn. 1.… Ba1 is followed by 2. Ne8 + Kf5 3. Nd6 mate . So if Black wants to keep the d6 square covered and therefore move about 1.… Bb8, then 2. Ne6 + Kf5 3. Nd4 mate follows. In the current position, the black bishop keeps these two mate squares covered.

So White puts Black under pressure with one move :
1. Be8!
1.…
Ba1 2. Nh5 + Kf5 3. Ng3 mate 1.… Bh2 2. Ne6 + Kf5 3. Nd4 mate
