The Emmaus Church in Bad Griesbach im Rottal was built in 1991/92 as part of the ecumenical pastoral care center in the Bad Griesbach-Therme district, Kurallee 3.

history

After the state recognition of the Griesbach thermal springs in 1979, a Catholic and an Evangelical-Lutheran course pastoral care was founded in 1980 . The good ecumenical cooperation and the friendly cooperation between the two responsible pastors gave rise to the idea of an ecumenical pastoral care center , which was finally established between 1991 and 1992 by the Catholic diocese of Passau and the Protestant deanery of Passau. The architects of the church were Alexander Freiherr von Branca from Munich and Norbert Liebich. The church was consecrated on October 11, 1992 by the Protestant regional bishop Johannes Hanselmannand the Roman Catholic Bishop of Passau , Franz Xaver Eder .

architecture

Chancel and organ

The church, which is connected to the course pastoral care center with meeting and event rooms, is located at the entrance to the spa area of Bad Griesbach and is visible from afar. The white plastered church building with the prominent protruding apse is crowned by a bell tower with a golden cross.

The semicircular church space offers space for 400 visitors. It is dominated by the 100 m² painting of the also semicircular apse, which was created by Oskar Koller from Nuremberg. The painting follows the motif "from darkness into light" with strong contrasts and intense color values, which merge into lighter colors from the outside in. The altar cross hanging centrally above the altar and the Way of the Cross are by Waldemar Otto ( Worpswede ). The altar cross with the Emmaus group integrated into it according to the patronage of the church represents the two disciples on the way to Emmaus , whom Jesus Christ joins undetected ( Lk 24 : 13-29  EU ).

The Evangelical Our Father Chapel and the Catholic Sacrament Chapel are added to the left and right of the common church space.
