Georg Jann (born January 17, 1934 in Kalkberge ; † February 12, 2019 in Brazil ) was a German organ builder .

Life

In 1948 Georg Jann began an organ building apprenticeship with Alexander Schuke in Potsdam . From 1961 onwards, he and his family took him through Switzerland and West Berlin to Regensburg . There he took over the long-established Eduard Hirnschrodt organ building workshop in the Stadtamhof district of Regensburg in 1974 . In 1975, Opus 2 for the Etzelwang community was completed in the new workshop . A short time later, the company received its first orders for three-manual organs with over 40 registers. In 1980 the first four-manual organ for the St. Joseph Church in Memmingen with 52 registers was completed. The workshop was later relocated to Allkofen near Laberweinting in Lower Bavaria , 25 kilometers south of Regensburg .

Georg Jann managed his company "Georg Jann Orgelbau Meisterbetrieb" until 1995, when he handed over the parent company to his second son, the organ builder Thomas Jann. Since then, the workshop has been called Thomas Jann Orgelbau GmbH. Georg Jann moved the pipe workshop to Portugal . At the end of 2005 he handed over this company, called "Orguian", to his eldest son, Detlef Jann. From 2006 Georg Jann lived in Brazil and ran a small organ building workshop there. He died there on February 12, 2019 and is buried in Blumenau .
