Eduard Hirnschrodt (born March 29, 1906 in Regensburg ; † December 29, 1990 there ) was a German organ builder.

Life

Eduard Hirnschrodt was born on March 29, 1906 as the son of Eduard Hirnschrodt sen. born in Regensburg. He completed an organ builder training in his father's company. After passing the master craftsman's examination in Passau and the death of his father, he took over the company in 1933, which was located in Regensburg- Stadtamhof at Protzenweiher 13. Its operation was continued in 1974/1975 by the organ building company Georg Jann . Eduard Hirnschrodt died on December 19, 1990.

meaning

In the first phase of his professional career, Eduard Hirnschrodt built organs with a pneumatic or electric cone chest and a tone that tended to be more fundamental. After the Second World War, Karl Strecker, a former employee of the Schuke company, joined the Hirnschrodt company. He initially worked as a voicer , and then also as a designer due to his more up-to-date knowledge. As a result, the company turned increasingly to the construction of organs with mechanical sliding chests , which was very much in keeping with the taste of the time.

The first work with this neo-baroque concept was the organ in St. Matthäus in Regensburg . Hirnschrodt's largest opus (68 / IV / P, from 1959) is in St. Emmeram in Regensburg. This instrument was the largest organ in the Diocese of Regensburg for decades before the Waldsassen organ system was realized. The character of his instruments is structurally and tonally very different.

Between 1932 and 1974, around 120 plants were built (including new buildings, extensions and conversions). Eduard Hirnschrodt's work reflects the upheavals in organ building between the pre- and post-war period . It is particularly important for the Upper Palatinate and northern Lower Bavaria .
