St. John Baptist (raft)
The parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is the Protestant parish church of the Floß market in the northern Upper Palatinate . Parts of the church were probably built as early as the 16th century; it is now a listed building. It is also called “St. Johannes Baptista "called.
history
The history of the church probably goes back to the 16th century, as evidenced by the year 1503, which stands on the south-east corner pillar of the chancel and indicates its origin. The nave was built in largely today's shape between 1781 and 1783 (J. Martin Beer), the church tower was increased in 1826. In 1999 the entire church building was given a new paint job.
Interior
One of the oldest objects inside the parish church is the baptismal font , which was made from local granite and whose base and bowl have late Gothic shapes. The ornate pulpit and the altar were created in this form in the middle of the 18th century, around 1740. In the Rococo period, unknown artists embellished them and decorated them with gold; on the cover there is a statue of John the Baptist .
The magnificent high altar is located in the middle of the choir and is adorned with ornaments, angels and the altarpiece, which shows the baptism of Jesus by the church patron John the Baptist. In the two corners of the chancel, two figures show the parents of John the Baptist, Elizabeth and Zacharias .
The current organ was inaugurated on June 28, 1970 with a solemn service.
