Hermann Friedrich Behn
Hermann Friedrich Behn (born January 23, 1767 in Lübeck , † February 20, 1846 in Lübeck) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and senior at the Ministry of Spirituality in Lübeck.
Life
Hermann Friedrich Behn was the son of the pedagogue Friedrich Daniel Behn and his wife Catharina Margarethe, geb. Käselau (1746–1806), daughter of the wealthy Lübeck businessman Hermann Peter Käselau. He studied theology at the University of Jena .
On April 25, 1793 he was elected preacher of the Petrikirche . On May 15, 1821 he rose to the position of (main) pastor of the Petrikirche. His colleagues in office elected him on April 27, 1829 as the successor to the cathedral pastor Johann Heinrich Carstens , who died at the age of 91, as senior of the Lübeck Spiritual Ministry. Since the office of superintendent had not been filled since 1796, the senior was now the leading clergyman of the Lübeck church .
Behn was involved in a variety of ways and was one of the founders of the Ernestine School in 1804 . The founding of the Lübeck teachers' seminar , which he was to lead as its director in the last year of his life, goes back to his initiative . Theologically he was committed to a mild Enlightenment theology , but also supported the approaches to church reform since the 1820s.
In 1843, to celebrate his 50th anniversary in office, the Senate honored him with the city's highest distinction, the Bene Merenti commemorative coin .
His successor was Johann Carl Lindenberg .
The lawyer Johann Heinrich Behn was his son.
