Karpfham Festival
The Karpfhamer Fest is an annual folk festival in Lower Bavaria that takes place in late summer . It is also known because of the agricultural exhibition that takes place at the same time.
Venue
Karpfham is a small town in the town of Bad Griesbach in the Rottal . First mentioned in a document in 903, it is located in the middle of the Lower Bavarian spa triangle Bad Griesbach – Bad Birnbach – Bad Füssing. The festival meadow is located directly on the federal highway 388 (Munich-Wegscheid).
history
Little is known about the history of the festival. The festival meadow is mentioned for the first time regarding a court day of Duke Heinrich the Lion in 1162. The first signs of the folk festival are traditions from the early 19th century that describe agricultural awards.
Originally the festival lasted three days (Friday to Sunday). Monday was added in the 1960s and Tuesday in the 1980s. Since 2009 the festival has already started on Thursday and therefore lasts 6 days (although the official move-in still takes place on Friday).
Attractions
In addition to showmen, rides and beer halls, there is the Rottalschau agricultural exhibition . It is a large agricultural exhibition in southern Germany.
Traditionally, the supporting program of the festival is characterized by horse breeding and equestrian sports with shows and tournaments. A highlight is the demonstration of the Rottaler Zehnerzug , a team of ten Rottalers harnessed in pairs in front of a historic stagecoach.
Beer tents
The beer tents at the Karpfhamer Fest are run by families from the region. Usually the beer tent bears the name of the respective hometown: Schwaimer Hütte , Poighamer Hütte , Holzhamer Hütte , Rottaler Hütte and Afhamer Festzelt as well as the "Hacklberger Hütte", which replaced the wine and wheat beer tent .
meeting
The date of the Karpfham Festival is set so that the festival Sunday falls on the Sunday next to the turn of the month from August to September. In the special case that the last Sunday in August and the first Sunday in September have the same time distance from the turn of the month (August 28 and September 4), the organizer prefers the later time.

The city of Bad Griesbach describes the Karpfhamer Festival as the third largest folk festival in Bavaria. Numerous publications by the press and tourism organizations follow. However, critics object that it is not defined how the size of a festival can be measured and therefore reject such statements. The organizer of the festival, the association "Karpfhamer Fest eV", rather joins the latter and describes the festival as "one of the great festivals in Bavaria" or as "Oans wia koans", whereby one must take into account that the affiliated agricultural exhibition " Rottalschau "can be described as the most important of its kind in southern Germany.
