The Traunstein – Garching line is a branch line in Bavaria . It runs from Traunstein and Trostberg to Garching an der Alz .
Regional trains of the Südostbayernbahn (DB) operate on the route under KBS 947 as the Traun-Alz-Bahn . Regular freight traffic takes place between Traunstein and Hörpolding as well as Trostberg and Garching.
history
The Traunstein - Trostberg section was opened on August 31, 1891. On November 14, 1910, the previous branch line to Trostberg was connected to the Mühldorf - Garching (Alz) line, creating the continuous Mühldorf - Traunstein connection.
The main purpose of the railway line was to connect the large companies in the southern area of the Bavarian chemical triangle in Trostberg, Tacherting and Garching on the Alz / Hart and the plant manufacturer Linde AG .
On September 29, 1988, the wagon of a shunting team laden with scrap metal , which was coming from Traunstein to Hörpolding without a driver, fell into the Traun. In order not to let the combination drive out of the block of the route , which was closed for shunting work , it was led onto a stump track at the end of which the wagon running ahead broke through the buffer stop and a concrete wall and fell into the river; the locomotive got stuck on the edge.
It is planned to remove the level crossings in St. Georgen.
As part of the reactivation of the Hörpolding - Traunreut route, since the timetable change on December 10, 2006, 15 trains per day and 10 trains per day connect Traunreut with Traunstein via Hörpolding. Before that, the line was extensively modernized for 5 million euros, including a. Traunreut station received a barrier-free platform, the existing platforms in Hörpolding and Matzing an asphalt surface. Travel time is 23 minutes. The free transport of bicycles is financed by the Chiemgau Tourist Association. September 11, 2016, the breakpoint has been Bad Received by a new breakpoint Traunstein Clinic at Klinikum Traunstein replaced. The construction of the platform north of the Wolkersdorfer Straße level crossing as well as a temporary platform on the opposite side, the adjustment work on the level crossing safety system and the dismantling of the Bad Empfing platform cost 1.5 million euros. In addition, the Kotzinger Strasse level crossing was renewed.
In return, operations on the route between Hörpolding and Trostberg were thinned out from 2006 to 2008. In the meantime, when the timetable changed in December 2008, there were again five pairs of trains running between Mühldorf - Trostberg - Hörpolding (- Traunstein). A more far-reaching expansion of the timetable on this section was not implemented due to concerns of the road construction authority regarding the susceptibility of a level crossing of the B 304 to traffic jams . With the timetable change in December 2009, operations were reduced again. Since then, only two pairs of trains have operated between Trostberg - Hörpolding (- Traunstein). With the timetable valid from September 11, 2016, four pairs of trains ran continuously between Hörpolding and Garching, Monday to Friday, and six more from / to Trostberg, on weekends there was a shutdown.
Since the timetable change on June 14, 2020, trains have been running every hour of the week from Traunstein to Hörpolding, then alternately every two hours to Traunreut and Garching. The weekend rest was abolished. Shuttle buses should run every hour on the Traunreut – Traunstein route.
