Hörpolding is a village in the municipality of the city of Traunreut in the Traunstein district in Upper Bavaria .

geography

The village is on the B304 between Traunstein and Trostberg and on the Traunstein-Mühldorf railway line. Hörpolding is divided into two parts, the upper village and the lower village.

While a construction company, some farms, hamlets and an inn can be found in the upper part of the village, the lower part of the village houses newer types of houses, the train station, a wood processing company and a mill .

history

Probably already used as a settlement area in the Bronze Age, archaeological finds can only be proven from the Roman-Celtic period. 68 row graves from the 7th / 8th centuries Century are secured. Nevertheless, the settlement - as we know it since then - was probably not built until the 8th century. The patronymic place name ("ad Herioltingam") indicates a Celtic landowner named "Heriolt". The village of Hörpolding was part of the municipality of Stein an der Traun and has belonged to the municipality of Traunreut since 1978.

railway station

Hörpolding station during track work in August 2006.

The station was built with the opening of the Traunstein-Trostberg section on August 31, 1891. In 1940, the Hörpolding station was considerably enlarged in order to be able to handle the heavy traffic that came from the ammunition plant more quickly. The station had 6 tracks and a second railway bridge. However, the bridge was dismantled at the beginning of the 1990s, and the tracks were built in the 1980s. The second bridge is currently in service in Altenmarkt an der Alz .

Since the reopening of the Traunreut railway station, the Hörpolding station has served as a hub between the Traun-Alz-Bahn and the Hörpolding – Traunreut railway line .

In August 2006, the entire superstructure from Hörpolding to Traunstein, with the exception of the section between Aiging and the Abzw. Traunstein industrial area, was renewed.

A curiosity: on September 29, 1988, a driverless train, coming from Traunstein to Hörpolding, crashed into the Traun.
