The Altötting train station is located about 500 meters south of the town center of Altötting. The station building is to the north of the tracks and has the address Bahnhofplatz 1. The Bahnhofstrasse, which leads to the city center, joins the Bahnhofplatz to the north. To the east the square turns into Traunsteiner Straße. To the south of the train station there is an industrial area between the tracks and Hillmannstrasse. To the west of the station, Trostberger Straße crosses the track towards Mühldorf. On the other side, to the east, is a pedestrian underpass .
The railway line Mühldorf – Burghausen ( VzG 5725), on which the station is located, is a single-track and non-electrified branch line . The Deutsche Bahn runs it as route book 942 Mühldorf – Burghausen.
history
With the opening of the first section of the Mühldorf – Burghausen local railway, Altötting station went into operation as a provisional terminus on May 1, 1897. Three months later, on August 9, 1897, operations began on the entire route to Burghausen. The former Neuötting – Altötting steam tram was also operated by the State Railways, but ended at Kapellplatz - about 600 meters on foot from Altötting train station.
construction
building
The Altötting reception building, which is now a listed building, was built from 1896. The station building is a multi-part, unplastered clinker brick building . It is two-storey and ends with a hipped roof . A single-storey wing connects to the east. This opens in the south, in the direction of the tracks, as a roofed open summer hall, which is also known as the so-called prayer hall. To the west, there is also a single-storey building wing, which, however, is closed with a two-storey front building. This eastern part of the reception building was mainly used by the staff, while the waiting rooms and entrance hall were in the other parts of the building.
Up until April 21, 2011, operations were controlled by two mechanical interlockings , each located at the western and eastern ends of the station. The two signal boxes were designated Aöf for Altötting dispatcher and Aös for Altötting Süd. They were built and put into operation in 1944. They each have two floors and a flat roof. On April 22, 2011, an electronic interlocking replaced the mechanical interlocking.
