der schienenbus is a news magazine of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Eisenbahnverkehr e. V. from Rotenburg (Wümme) .

The magazine appears six times a year at the beginning of even months and is available from station bookshops for € 5.90. It comprises 100 pages in the format 24 × 17 cm.

History of the magazine

In 1983 , the harbinger of the rail bus , the Eisenbahn-Club-Kurier , appeared for the first time with an edition of five copies. After the original booklet was slightly modified, it changed its name in 1988 to " der schienenbus ". Over the years, the rail bus changed its layout again and again and was given its current appearance at the beginning of 2013 .

editorial staff

the rail bus is created on a voluntary basis by ten editors (including the editor-in-chief) and another 17 permanent employees. They receive support through articles, messages and photos from their readers.

content

the rail bus deals with current events on German railways and is divided into different categories:

  • Leading article: The leading article often deals with a current transport policy issue such as the cut in regionalization funds , the rail IPO or similar. But also special anniversaries of stations or railway lines as well as events that shape rail operations in Germany are often the title topic.
  • Vehicle Journal: This is where current changes in the vehicle fleets of the German railway companies are dealt with, such as new acquisitions, relocations, decommissioning and accidents involving locomotives and railcars . The railway vehicles of other European countries are also briefly discussed.
  • News: Here you can find the latest news from German rail traffic, such as modernization measures and the closure of lines or stations, tenders for transport services and much more. In turn, the news is divided into Germany-wide reports and regional news from North, East, West and South Germany. In some cases, the respective editors supplement reports with a personal comment. With around 50 pages, the news fill most of the magazine.
  • Museum & Tourism: This section covers current events on German museum railways , changes to the inventory of historic locomotives and the like. treated.
  • Dates: Dates of special trips with unusual trains, excursions to special locations and events relating to the railroad are indicated here.
  • Media market: On mostly three or four pages you can find out which books, DVDs and videos about the railways have been published in recent months. The editor describes the content of the article in question and makes his recommendation.
