Stadler KISS
The Stadler KISS is an electric double-decker - Multiple Unit of the Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail . The trains are available as two- to eight-part train units (previously only built as three-, four- and six-part versions) for normal and broad gauge. KISS stands for "comfortable, innovative, high-speed S-Bahn train". The trains, which were developed and sold under the name “Stadler Dosto” from 2008 to 2010, have been delivered since 2011. Since then, 297 KISSs have been sold in 11 countries (as of December 2018).
The trains have been used by SBB for the Zurich S-Bahn since spring 2012 (see SBB RABe 511 ). There are also correspondingly modified variants on the Austrian Westbahn by the WESTbahn , in regional Berlin-Brandenburg by ODEG , on the Bern S-Bahn by BLS AG , in border traffic between Luxembourg and Trier (to Koblenz and Düsseldorf) by CFL and on the Mittelland line (from Braunschweig to Rheine and Bielefeld) by the Westfalenbahn . In addition, the train can also be found on various Interregio and Regioexpress lines in and around Geneva, Basel, Zurich, St. Gallen and Bern (as of January 2020).
In Germany, the end car is included in the vehicle configuration register as the 0445 series and the intermediate car as the 0446 series . In Austria, the KISS is sold as the 4010 series (six parts) and the 4110 series (four parts).
Version SBB
On August 31, 2008, SBB ordered 50 double-decker multiple units from Stadler for the Zurich S-Bahn. This order formed the basis for the KISS product family.
The RABe 511 are called "Regio-Dosto" by the SBB and form the third generation of double-decker trains for the Zurich S-Bahn. On April 15, 2010, before the first train was delivered, SBB exercised an option for a further 24 multiple units of the same type. While the original order was for six-part multiple units, the subsequent order was for four-part units. After the first unit was delivered in March 2011, the first passenger trip was completed on September 5, 2011.
In June 2015, SBB announced that it would be purchasing a further 19 six-car trains for the Zurich S-Bahn. They are intended for the 4th partial expansion of the network. The first train was handed over to SBB in January 2016.
The RABe 511, which will be used in long-distance traffic in the future, will cost around CHF 20 million from 2019 to 2024. upgraded from Regio-Dosto (RVD) to Interregio-Dosto (IRD).
Version Westbahn / Deutsche Bahn (long-distance traffic)
The Austrian Westbahn put seven units of a long-distance variant (adapted for 200 km / h, larger seat spacing) into operation on December 11, 2011. The six-car trains have a capacity of 501 seats and the maximum speed is 200 km / h. Since doors had loosened from their anchoring several times when trains met, the top speed was initially reduced to 160 km / h. The doors have now been revised and adapted to the increased maximum speed. The four intermediate cars are each equipped with a café area above a bogie, above the other bogie there are two toilets (male / female) each. The trolley 400 offers a large universal toilet for people with limited mobility. In the end cars there are seating groups with large tables.
In 2015, a six-car and nine four-car multiple units were also ordered, which went into operation in 2017 and can be coupled with the existing vehicles.
On July 21, 2019, it was announced that the Westbahn will sell all 17 trains in two tranches to DB Fernverkehr in order to replace them with 15 new acquisitions of the newer third generation of Stadler double-decker trains (KISS 3). The purchase agreement was signed on July 22, 2019. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Another potential buyer was ÖBB .
The first tranche comprises the nine newer, four-part KISS-2 units of the 4110 series from 2017. They have been in use on the new InterCity lines between Dresden - Berlin - Rostock and Vienna - Nuremberg - Berlin - Rostock since spring 2020 . You will initially have 271 2nd class seats and 31 1st class seats. The number of seats is to be reduced by adding luggage racks for large luggage from May 2020.
The eight six-car units are to be taken over by DB in the fourth quarter of 2021 as soon as the KISS 3 of the Westbahn are ready for use. Your area of application has not yet been determined. Use on the EC line 62 (Frankfurt – Salzburg) and on the Stuttgart – Zurich line is being considered.
In mid-October 2019, DB Fernverkehr AG announced in the European Official Journal that it had commissioned Stadler to convert the four-car KISS 2 into six-car trains, along with further modernizations. The trains should be converted and approved for operation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by March 2022 at the latest.
On February 5, 2020, the first multiple unit in the DB design was presented in Berlin Central Station. The maximum speed in Germany will initially be limited to 160 km / h, approval for 200 km / h is to take place in the second half of 2020.
As before, the multiple units will be serviced at ÖBB Stadler Services in Vienna Westbahnhof.
Version BLS
On March 30, 2010, BLS AG ordered a total of 28 four-part Stadler Dostos, which have been in use on the Bern S-Bahn since December 2012 . The trains have 335 seats and 566 standing places (4 people / m²) and reach a top speed of 160 km / h with a starting acceleration of 1.3 m / s². In the BLS, the type name is MUTZ ( M odern, U niverseller T rubbed Z ug), following the Bernese dialect word for "bear". They are first used on the S1, later also on the S6 and on the S3 / S31.
In December 2015, BLS ordered three more trains. They have been in use as reinforcement on lines S1 and S3 / S31 since the end of 2017.
The multiple unit 515 008 has been running with full advertising for SC Bern since June 30, 2018 .
In July 2018, BLS ordered eight more trains, in addition to three four-car trains, for the first time also six-car models. They are intended for the new IR lines Bern - Biel (from 2019) and Bern - Burgdorf - Olten, which BLS will operate from December 2020.

particularities
Following a certain tradition - the RABe 535 No. 113 is called "Lötschbergerin" and the RABe 525 No. 013 "NINO" instead of "NINA" - the RABe 515 No. 13 is not as "MUTZ 013", but as "OURS 013" »On the way (Ours is the French word for bear). The 013 is on the way as S1 between Thun and Freiburg (Friborg), which is mostly French .
Versions of KISS Germany
The KISS multiple units, which are manufactured by Stadler Pankow GmbH, differ from the original KISS model in that they comply with the G2 clearance profile so that they can be used without restriction on the DB Netz routes . As a result, the space in the shoulder area of the upper floor is narrower than with the Swiss multiple units. In return, it was possible to lengthen the individual wagons and raise the wagon body by 35 millimeters. The vehicle heads have also been redesigned to meet newer crash requirements.
In addition, the pantographs sit on the intermediate car. In the end cars, only the bogies at the car transitions are driven. If more traction is required, intermediate cars can be equipped with a powered bogie.
Version ODEG
On January 11, 2010, the Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn (ODEG) ordered a total of 16 four-part Stadler Dostos, which were manufactured by Stadler Pankow GmbH and were to be used in the Berlin-Brandenburg regional traffic when the timetable changed in December 2012.
The four cars of a multiple unit are constructed differently:
- 445 1xx (“A-car”): 2nd class seats, multi-purpose area (below), toilet, main switch, drive module with transformer, converter and motor bogie at the transition to the C-car.
- 446 1xx (“C-car”): 2nd class seats, multi-purpose area (below), disabled toilet, pantograph
- 446 6xx ("D-Wagen"): 2nd class seats, multi-purpose area (below), no toilet, pantograph
- 445 6xx ("B-car"): 1st class (above) and 2nd class seats, multi-purpose area (below), toilet, main switch, drive module with transformer, converter and motor bogie at the car transition to the D-car.
The first train was completed in February 2012 and was u. a. on the way to test drives on the Velim railway test ring . In autumn 2012, however, it became known that not all trains could be completed by the time the timetable changed on December 9, 2012. In fact, the ODEG started on December 9, 2012 with vehicles borrowed from other manufacturers, because at that time no approval was available. The first four of the 16 trains ordered received approval from the Federal Railway Authority on December 21, 2012 and were gradually used in passenger service on the RE 4 from January 8, 2013 and gradually replaced the replacement trains from March 10, 2013 the DB Regio on the RE 2. The 15th and penultimate KISS (0445 108) received its approval on June 21, 2013. The 16th and last KISS (0445 115) was delivered on July 16th and named Eberswalde on August 17th for the “Open Day”.
Version CFL
The Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) announced on 7. October 2010 announced the order for eight double-decker railcars from Stadler with an order value of 60 million euros. The trains are 80 in length m and offer 284 seats, 29 of which are in first class. In addition, multi-purpose compartments with space for 24 bicycles and three wheelchair spaces are planned. The vehicles are equipped with ETCS and reach a maximum speed of 160 km / h. You can choose from the power systems 25 kV / 50 Hz and 15 kV / 16.7 Hz and should originally be used from the timetable change in December 2013 on the Luxembourg - Koblenz line. From the 16. In February 2013 a multiple unit (2301) undertook test drives on the Velim railway test ring .
The official presentation of the new trains did not take place until 29. September 2014 at the border station Wasserbillig . The use as RE 11 between Luxembourg Ville and Koblenz began with the timetable change on 14. December 2014. Since 16. March 2015, the CFL-KISS travel on the section between Trier and Koblenz together with the FLIRTs of the DB Regio Südwest in mixed multiple units. This rolling stock is also used on the Luxembourg – Düsseldorf train pair . On the 18th In March 2015, the Luxembourg government announced that it would purchase eleven more railcars of the series. Five of them are to be used for the Trier western line, which is expected to go into operation in 2021 .
Version of the Westfalenbahn
The WestfalenBahn since the timetable change in December 2015 sets thirteen six-car double-deck multiple units on the line Braunschweig-Hannover-Minden-Rheine / Bielefeld one which of Alpha Trains are rented. This is the first variant with a powered intermediate car. The first class is on the upper deck of an intermediate car. The trains are 156 meters long and have 627 seats each. Thus, they are the longest multiple units that are used in German regional traffic, and also the longest trains that are maintained by a competitive railway.
- Operational problems
At the Westfalenbahn, shortly after the start of operations, there were various problems with the vehicles due to unwanted rapid braking, triggered by the vehicle control / software and faulty air conditioning systems that do not heat the wagons sufficiently.
Deutsche Bahn version
In June 2019, DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein announced that Stadler had won the tender for 18 double-deck vehicles with the KISS model. The vehicles - consisting of two railcars and two intermediate cars - are to be used on the "Elektronetz Ost" in Schleswig-Holstein from December 2022.
Versions Sweden
In 2016, the regional railway company Mälardalstrafik ordered 33 double-decker trains of the Transitio ER1 series through the leasing company Transitio . They will be delivered in 2019-2020 and reach a speed of 200 km / h. You will go on regional traffic between Stockholm and towards the southwest. In 2018, Transitio ordered eight more trains for the Upplands Lokaltrafik railway company ; they are intended for the Uppsala – Gävle traffic. The first passenger traffic was December 15, 2019.
Versions of KISS Eurasia
For railways with Russian broad gauge , a version has been developed that takes full advantage of the larger clearance profile . In contrast to the standard gauge versions, the drive is here in part of the intermediate car, with powered cars being shorter. This variant was christened "Eurasia".
Version Aeroexpress
In mid-February 2013, the Russian rail operator Aeroexpress signed a contract with Stadler for the delivery of 25 KISS trains, including 16 four-car and 9 six-car trains, for 350 million euros with an option for 13 more trains. These are to connect the center of Moscow with the three airports Domodedovo , Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo . Due to the Russian economic crisis, the buyer asked for renegotiations, and in 2016 they agreed, among other things, on a reduced purchase of 11 sets.
The construction took place in Switzerland as well as in the new plant in Minsk. As the first vehicles in the series for the Russian broad-gauge network , they are significantly wider and taller than the versions previously ordered. In contrast to all other previous versions, the entrance doors are above the bogies, as the operational routes have high platforms.
Version ADY
On May 13, 2015 the Azerbaijani Railway Azərbaycan Dəmir Yolları (ADY) ordered five four-part multiple units for the Baku - Sumqayıt route, which correspond to the Aeroexpress version. Another appointment was made in 2018.
Version SR
Since July 25, 2016, two out of four KISS railcars ordered by Sakartwelos Rkinigsa (SR) have been in use in long-distance transport in Georgia .
Version Hungary
In April 2017, MÁV-START and Stadler signed an eight-year framework agreement for the delivery of up to 40 six-part double-decker multiple units. These should be compatible with the existing flirt. The vehicles will be equipped with ETCS Level 2 and the EVM train control system . The vehicles, which meet the latest safety regulations, have a length of 156 and a width of 2.8 meters and offer space for 600 passengers. The trains each have 4 toilets, one of which is intended for people with reduced mobility. They have parking spaces for 4 wheelchairs in the multifunctional areas. There is space for 12 bicycles and 5 strollers. The high level of comfort is also complemented by free WiFi , advanced air conditioning and passenger information systems .
In August 2017, 11 units for the Budapest suburban lines Budapest - Vác - Szob and Budapest - Cegléd - Szolnok were called up; the trains will go into operation in the course of 2020. Another 8 units were called up in mid-December 2018 and are scheduled to enter regular service on the Budapest - Szabadbattyán - Balatonfüred line in 2021 . In August 2019, the last 21 units of the framework agreement were finally called up. Although the contract states that the first multiple units should be brought into passenger service from February 2020, unforeseeable problems arise in the production, approval procedures and training of the train drivers that delayed the start of operations. On January 31, 2020, the MÁV Group published a message that the first unit should only operate on line 100a (Budapest – Cegléd – Szolnok) from March 15. In April the second unit will receive preliminary approval for line 70 (Budapest – Vác – Szob) and the first 11 units should be delivered by August.
In November 2018, the first completed car body from the Minsk plant was brought to Dunakeszi Járműjavító in Hungary, where the MÁV trains are being assembled. The bogies are supplied by Stadler's component plant in Szolnok.
On July 16, 2019, the rollout of the first train was celebrated in Dunakeszi, where the loaded press was able to inspect the first fully assembled unit. On July 20, 2019, the first two multiple units (815 001 and 815 002) left Hungary in the direction of VÚŽ Velim and the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center . For March 13, 2020, the MÁV Group has planned a public, ceremonial presentation called KISS by Night at Budapest Ostbahnhof (Budapest-Keleti) for the first trains in connection with the COVID-19 emergency declared on March 11 was canceled, but the dress rehearsal was held on March 12th. A short press event at the Westbahnhof (Budapest-Nyugati) served as a substitute presentation on March 15, 2020, where the Hungarian press could see unit number 7 during the fall of the city and the passengers with the multiple unit between Budapest, Monor, Cegléd and Szolnok according to the previously published Could also ride the timetable. The provisional timetable of the type was canceled on March 17, because Stadler Rail AG requested the engineers and technicians to return home to Switzerland immediately, so the test drives with passengers could no longer be carried out and units No. 1, 2, 3 were available and 7 again in Dunakeszi still. At 9:50 am on June 1, 2020, Hungary left the 815 007 with the help of a WESTbahn-KISS in the direction of Vienna-Westbahnhof, where it was parked before the high-speed trips to be carried out later.
