Szob ( German Zopp an der Donau ) is a Hungarian city in the Szob district in Pest County . 2944 inhabitants live in an area of 17.97 km² (as of 2011).
The city is located on the north bank of the Danube , directly on the western border with Slovakia . Road No. 12 runs through the town and runs in an easterly direction to Vác in the Danube Valley. The 232.5 km long Ipoly , a left tributary of the Danube, flows into the Danube at Szob as a border river.
The Burgus Szob is a former Roman military camp.
Attractions
- Börzsöny Museum : The permanent exhibition opened in 1960 comprises more than 24,000 pieces. It gives insights into the history of the place and the surrounding area from the Neolithic to the Ottoman period. There is an ethnographic and a natural history collection.
