Types
Three different series of two-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotives were produced from the D 25 B.
1. Design
Eight locomotives were built from 1972 to 1975. They can be recognized from the outside on the rear wall of the locomotives, which does not have a locomotive box. The first locomotive went to Daimler-Benz AG and has been in service with NIAG as Locomotive 12 since 1999 . A locomotive from this series was designed to be explosion-proof .

2. Design
Six locomotives of the second design were built between 1977 and 1982. They can be recognized by a small locomotive box on the back of the locomotive and the somewhat angular design. Half of the locomotives are explosion-proof.

3. Design
Six locomotives of the third design have been built since 1985. They comply with the recommendations of VDV 200 (shunting and mainline locomotives). In addition to its angular appearance, this design differs from the earlier locomotives primarily in the side sloping cab walls. The entrance doors are now on the front of the driver's cab. The last locomotive of this type so far was delivered in 2006; but it is still included in the Gmeinder delivery program.
