Münchsmünster is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm .
geography
Geographical location
The municipality of Münchsmünster is located in the northeastern corner of the Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district and on the eastern border of Upper Bavaria . The closest major city of Ingolstadt is 20 kilometers away.
The course of the river Ilm approaches the Danube for less than a kilometer, but then flows into the Abens (in a neighboring town) .
Due to its location in the Danube valley, there are no significant elevations in the entire municipal area. Tall structures such as the church tower and the chimneys of the local industry can be seen from afar from the north and west in good weather. The next elevations are located in the Dürnbuch forest area bordering to the south .

To the south of the municipality is the Dürnbucher Forst , an area free of municipalities. The closest community to the south is Aiglsbach , a little to the west of it is the city of Geisenfeld . The city of Vohburg an der Donau then follows in a clockwise direction to the west . In the north the market borders Pförring , the area of which extends to the south of the Danube. The next inhabited neighboring town is Schwaig (Neustadt) , a district of Neustadt an der Donau , directly east of Münchsmünster.
All neighboring municipalities are part of the Hallertau hop-growing region .
history
Until the church is planted
The local monastery Münchsmünster was founded by Duke Tassilo III. founded by Bavaria and was a Benedictine monastery until 925, and canonical monastery from 925 to 1131. From 1131 until the 16th century it was again a Benedictine monastery. In 1556, the monastery went out during the turmoil of the Reformation. The Bavarian dukes then appointed secular administrators. In 1598 the goods were handed over to the Jesuit College in Ingolstadt . In 1782 the plant fell to the Maltese. In 1815 the monastery and church were demolished. In 1818 today's political community was established.
19th to 21st century
In 1874 Münchsmünster received a train station for the Danube Valley Railway. In 1970, a processing petrochemical company was established in Münchsmünster. In December 2005 there was an accident at the plant in which a fire fighter from Neustadt an der Donau lost his life.
At the beginning of 2013, 39.5 hectares from the community-free area of the Dürnbucher Forst were incorporated into Münchsmünster (which also expanded the Pfaffenhofen district and the Upper Bavaria district).
Incorporations
On January 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Wöhr was incorporated.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,368 to 3,047 by 679 inhabitants or 28.7%.

Andreas Meyer (Christian Voting Association) has been the mayor since May 2002, he was re-elected in 2008, 2014 and 2020, most recently with 80.24% of the votes for a competitor

Since May 1, 2020 , the municipal council has been composed as follows:
- CSU : 5 seats (29.38%)
- SPD / UW: 4 seats (26.87%)
- Christian constituency : 7 seats (43.75%).
The turnout was 58.66%.

With the B 16 , Münchsmünster has a well-developed, but heavily used traffic route. In addition, and of great importance for commuters to Ingolstadt -Nord, the B 16a . The railway connection in the directions of Ingolstadt and Regensburg ( Danube Valley Railway ) is used by both commuters and local industry.
Established businesses
Most of Münchsmünster's workplaces are in the southeast, south of the railway line. This area is divided into three areas:
- The industrial park (east of the brook butterfly) with chemical and petrochemical industry ( LyondellBasell , Xervon ). It has existed since the 1970s.
- The Wolfswinkel-West commercial area (middle part, between Bachfalter and Staatsstraße St2233), which was created around 2010
- The south industrial area (between the railway line and the St2233 state road) with trading and logistics companies
By 2013, Audi will also develop the still undeveloped and partially dismantled area of the industrial park on around 27 hectares for the production of lightweight components. In addition, the automotive group has acquired around 13 hectares of land immediately west of the Schrannenbach in order to be able to expand the location in the long term.
In 2016, a total of around 1200 employees subject to social security contributions worked in the municipality, mainly in the manufacturing sector.

The community has a primary school and a library. Some secondary schools are located in neighboring communities.

Other municipal institutions
The modern town hall is primarily used by the local government and the local council. In addition, an event room in the basement can be reserved for non-profit purposes.
The community is also the owner of a leased inn with a citizens' hall.
