history
Until the church is planted
Wolnzach was first mentioned as Wolamotesaha in 756 in the founding document of Wessobrunn Monastery . Towards the end of the 11th century, the noble family of the Hoholde raised Wolnzach to the center of their rule, which extended far into the Hallertau . Most of this fell to the Wittelsbach family in 1252/55 ; the smaller part with the town and castle Wolnzach came to the Lords of Preysing via hereditary path . Wolnzach has had market rights since 1270, today's market square was built in 1408. In 1465 Hans von Preysing zu Wolnzach was granted imperial freedom .
As early as 1482, after the conquest by Duke George the Rich's troops, Wolnzach fell to Bavaria-Landshut . The former lordship of Wolnzach, now downgraded to Hofmark , was owned by the Elsenheimer family from 1584 to 1725. Wolnzach became the seat of a ducal Bavarian nursing office. Wolnzach also had a market court with important proprietary rights, but gave these rights to the Moosburg regional court in the middle of the 16th century . Wolnzach Castle was destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years War in 1632. Leopold Heinrich von Elsenheim began to completely rebuild Wolnzach Castle in 1697.
From 1726 to 1802 the Wolnzach Monastery existed , a Capuchin monastery that was dissolved in 1802 in the course of secularization . In 1805 all buildings of the monastery were demolished and used to build a mill. Wolnzach Castle was also auctioned in 1810 and then demolished.
Wolnzach became an independent political municipality in the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818.
19th to 21st century
After the communal land was distributed to farmers, hop growing began to take off in 1834 with the introduction of the first hop seal in the Hallertau . In 1864 the market had 230 houses and 1,300 residents who were active in local trades, but mainly in the very strong hop culture. Since the 1960s there has also been a significant industry. The German Hop Museum has existed in Wolnzach since 2002.
Incorporations
On July 1, 1971, the previously independent communities Gebrontshausen (with Jebertshausen), Gosseltshausen , Haushausen , Königsfeld and Niederlauterbach as well as part of the community Burgstall were incorporated. Part of the Berg community was added on July 1, 1972. On January 1st, 1978 Eschelbach an der Ilm , Geroldshausen , Larsbach and Oberlauterbach followed .
Today around 4600 people live in the incorporated towns, while the population of the main town Wolnzach is almost 7000.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the market grew from 7,996 to 11,622 by 3,626 inhabitants or 45.4%.
