Josef Angermüller

Josef Angermüller (born November 6, 1949 in Osseltshausen near Wolnzach , Upper Bavaria, † April 24, 1977 in Civitanova Marche , Italy ) was a German motorcycle track racer.

Career

Angermüller started his racing career in 1969 and died in 1977 after falling during a World Cup qualifying run on his favorite track in Civitanova Marche, Italy . Even if he was never able to achieve a national or international title, Angermüller was the first “star” of rail sports, even before Egon Müller . In 1971 he signed, as the first German speedway driver ever, a professional contract in the British league with Reading and also drove on the island for Hull in this league in 1974 .

He started for Ruhpolding in the German Bundesliga and was also a member of the German national speedway team. He qualified for the finals of the World Long Course Championship in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1976. In 1971 he was German runner-up on the long course.

Personal

Angermüller was not only the first German professional in the British speedway world league, but was also considered the first "star" of this sport, even before Egon Müller, who also wrote headlines outside of motorsport magazines. Friends called him "Sepp" Angermüller, fans called him the "Beatle" or the "Speedway Beatle".
