Hallertau hop queen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hallertau Hop Queen is the representative of Hallertau hops , who is elected for one year .

Modalities

In order to be able to take part in the Hallertau Hop Queen election, the candidate or her family must own a hop garden. The Hallertau hop queen is chosen at the folk festival in Wolnzach . The day of the election is always the first Monday during the period of the Volksfest in Wolnzach. The election takes place in the festival hall there and every visitor is entitled to vote on election day. There is space for 3,000 guests in the festival hall. There are also two ballots, in the first ballot the three women with the most votes are determined. In the second ballot, the hop princess (third place), the hop vice queen (second place) and the hop queen (first place) are determined.

On the evening of the election, the candidates must prove their expertise in hops and their quick wittedness. During their one-year term of office, the queen, viceroy and princess promote Hallertau hops at trade fairs , folk festivals and other events, including abroad.

Furthermore, the candidates are formally classified according to which seal district they come from. This division does not play a role in the choice and is to be seen more as a guide for the viewer. In addition, there are no regulations regarding the number of participants per seal district.

particularities

From 1955 to 1960, the seal communities could not agree on a common choice and chose a separate hop queen for each district. There were queens in Geisenfeld, Mainburg, Pfaffenhofen, Wolnzach and Au in the Hallertau. There were two queens in the 2003 election. Up until that point there was only one ballot and the two subsequent queens had the same number of votes. In order not to have to let the lot decide, the mayors decided on the evening of the election to award both of them the dignity of queens. Since 2004 there has been a changed voting mode to prevent this. In the 2017, 2018 and 2019 elections there were only two applicants and therefore no hop princess.
