Over a shield base split by a zigzag step of silver and red, split; in front a silver sloping bar covered with a red burning black branch, behind in silver a floating coat of arms Volkenschwandendes blue four-leaf clover.
Coat of arms history
The silver sloping bar in red is the heraldic symbol of the bishopric and cathedral chapter of Regensburg and reminds of the close historical connection of the municipality there. The name Volkenschwand is a clearing name; he refers to the clearing by scrubbing (burning down); the burning branch is a talking symbol for these processes at the time of the early settlement. Further figures represent the communities Großgundertshausen and Leibersdorf, which were independent until 1978. The four-leaf clover stands for the Heilig Kreuz parish church in Gundertshausen. The zigzag step in the shield base is taken from the coat of arms of the barons of Leibersdorf, who held the Hofmark of the same name until their extinction in the 16th century. Their successors in possession were from 1523 to 1723 the Barons von Zeller, who also took over the coat of arms.
