history

Until the 19th century

Siegenburg was first mentioned in a document in 895. The place is said to have got its name from a "Sigo" mentioned as early as the 9th century. Around 1050 Altmann I († 1094) became lord of Siegenburg. Count Eberhard I of Ratzenhofen, Brother I. Altmann, is considered the progenitor of the Babonen counting Abensberger noble family . The Altmann family, who ruled Siegenburg for three generations, gained importance and prestige through the Vogtei via the Münchsmünster monastery . After its extinction in 1180, ownership and bailiwick rights were transferred to the Wittelsbach family , who appointed a castle keeper. As such, the "Ettlinger" from the town of Ettling near Pförring and the "Höchstetter" - these were also forest masters in the Dürnbucher forest - are known.

The granting of market rights, with which a certain communal self-government was connected, goes back to Kaiser Ludwig den Bayer . "Sybenpurch" is already referred to as a market in a document from 1359. Siegenburg Castle, whose appearance is preserved in the Siegenburg coat of arms, was destroyed by Bohemian troops in the Landshut War of Succession (1504). In the middle of the 16th century, the Siegenburg citizen and councilor "Bilbis" had the Siegenburg Castle built in place of the castle.

Siegenburg has been an independent parish since 1871. Previously, the place belonged to the district of the parish Niederumelsdorf.

Incorporations

In 1945 or 1946, the municipality of Tollbach and parts of the dissolved municipality of Staudach were incorporated. Niederumelsdorf was added on January 1, 1976. From the community-free area of Dürnbucher Forst , the 2.3 km² area of the former Bombodrome was incorporated into the Siegenburg market on January 1st, 2014 .

In desperation, the citizens prayed to St. Sebastian, in his honor a small church was built next to the former large church and the parish issued the so-called "Sevastizeltl" in his honor, as a memorial stone on the Kirchberg wall confirmed: " This WS Sebastiani chapel was built in 1732 with the help of many benefactors and the engagement of a laudable brotherhood to avert the fall of cattle and dangerous disease.
