Karl Theodor von Buseck

Karl Theodor Philipp Kilian von Buseck (* July 8, 1803 in Bamberg , † March 28, 1860 ibid) was a German watercolor painter and lithographer .

Life

His parents were Leopold Friedrich von Buseck and his wife Maria Carolina Leopoldine, born von Bodeck zu Ellgau. Karl Theodor had two older brothers, Christoph Franz Amand and Friedrich Karl. Like Karl Theodor, the latter was unmarried and accompanied him on his travels. One of the father's brothers was Christoph Franz Amand von Buseck , the last prince-bishop of Bamberg. The family belongs to the so-called “Catholic” or “ Eppelborn ” branch of the Barons von Buseck , a family originally based in Central Hesse, in the Buseck Valley .

He attended the University of Würzburg as "cand. Philos ”. His inclination for the fine arts was evident early on. He never completed any training in art; he was self-taught . Karl Theodor was kuk real chamberlain and belonged to the Order of Malta . In 1810 his father bought the castle in Burgellern , where Karl Theodor and his brother Friedrich Karl lived for a long time and filled it with souvenirs.

The two brothers traveled several times with Duke Max in Bavaria . Her travels took her through Germany as well as to France , Italy , England , Spain , Portugal , the Danube countries, Greece and the Orient. From a visit to the slave market in Cairo they brought "a black man" with them to Burgellern, where he worked as a gardener. The daily newspaper of the city of Bamberg from May 15, 1839 mentions the charitable gifts of the brothers to helpless residents and school children. Duke Max dedicated his piano piece op. 22, "The Brothers", to them, his friends and traveling companions.

In his work there are views of his hometown Bamberg as well as pictures from his travels through Europe and the Orient, among others. a. in the wake of Duke Max in Bavaria.
