Burgellern is a church village with 400 inhabitants (as of December 8, 2008) and a district of Scheßlitz in the Bavarian district of Bamberg .

The place is at an altitude of 338  m above sea level. NN am Ellernbach east of Scheßlitz. The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .

history

A former castle next to today's church and the Ellernbach, which rises about 100 meters after Roßdach , shaped the name of the place. The Burgellern Castle , which belonged to the brothers Karl Theodor and Friedrich Karl von Buseck was, is, since June 2006, a hotel. The place once belonged to the von Giech family , later to the cathedral chapter in Bamberg . On July 1, 1972, Burgellern was incorporated into the city of Scheßlitz.

A castle chapel originally stood on the site of today's Magdalena Katharina Church. This belonged to the former castle that gave the place on the Ellerbach its name. In 1716 the brothers Gregor and Dionysius Finsterwalder built the current baroque church on behalf of the Bamberg cathedral chapter on a piece of land that had been bought from Count Giech.

societies

The local volunteer fire brigade Burgellern- Schlappenreuth has two youth fire brigade groups.

The local cultural association Burgelleren e. V. (OKV) is the largest association in town and strives for cultural village life with various events. The OKV's annual Christmas market is one of the most popular events in the pre-Christmas season in the Upper Franconian region. In 2008 the association celebrated its 25th anniversary, one of the highlights of which was the visit by the Bavarian Environment Minister Markus Söder .

The Soldiers Comradeship Association cares for the memory of fallen and missing comrades from both World Wars from Burgellern and Schlappenreuth.
