Würgau is a district of Scheßlitz in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg on the north-western edge of Franconian Switzerland . Würgau has 329 inhabitants (as of March 30, 2005).

history

The settlement probably originated in the 12th century; first mentions were around 1202 and 1302 on the occasion of the handover of the place to the Langheim monastery by the Lords of Truhendingen . Until the church was built, a chapel, consecrated around 1505, was used for services and prayer.

On May 1, 1978, the place was incorporated into the city of Scheßlitz.

church

The Church of St. Andreas is a Catholic branch church that was built in 1733 by the Staffelstein builders König and Weber.

Location and road connections

Würgau is on the federal road 22 between Scheßlitz and Steinfeld . The Würgauer Berg , which was known for decades as the German hill climb , begins right at the exit of the village in the direction of Hollfeld . There are still annual regularity tests. The winding and thoroughly renovated road was a popular destination for motorcyclists, especially on weekends. After several serious accidents caused by excessive speed, it is now closed to motorcyclists at the weekend.
