The village of Burglesau is located about 4.3 km northeast of the Scheßlitz core city at the northeast foot of the Reisberg (also called Schlappenreuther Berg ), a 553.9  m above sea level. NN high mountain or mountain spur on the western edge of the Franconian Alb . The village boundary of around 7 hectares lies on the Burglesaubächlein, a tributary of the Scheßlitzer Ellernbach . Neighboring towns are the Scheßlitz districts of Stübig in the north, Würgau in the south-south-east, Schlappenreuth in the south-west, Burgellern in the west- south- west and Ehrl in the west; east-northeast lies the Wadden villages Gemeindeteil Gräfenhäusling and east-southeast of Stadel Hofener community town of Roßdorf am Berg . From state road 2210 to the west, a dead end road leads to Burglesau.

history

The first detectable settlements on the nearby Reisberg date back to the 5th century BC. By the Celts settled in northeastern Franconia . Burglesau was first mentioned in a document in 1290 as "reading" in a donation agreement from Countess Agnes von Truhendingen in favor of the Cistercian monastery of Langheim, founded in 1133 . The name reading is probably of Slavic origin and means forest village.

Around 1421, the Förtsch von Thurnau family can be traced as rulership, after its extinction in 1564 Burglesau came to the Giech and Künsberg . The sovereignty belonged to the diocese of Bamberg until the secularization in 1803 .

From the year 1520 the place was mentioned in addition to the spellings "Lesau" and "Lesaw" as "Burglesau". The remains of the Celtic settlement probably brought the addition of a castle . In the geographical lexicon of Franconia (written around 1800) it says: "You can find ancient remains of a castle that once stood there on a nearby mountain."

On January 1, 1974, Burglesau was incorporated into Stübig. Since May 1, 1978 it has belonged to the city of Scheßlitz with this.

Parishes

The church separation of the 200-inhabitant village is interesting. The part to the left of the Lesau stream belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Kilian in Scheßlitz , the other part to the Catholic parish of St. Martin in Weichenwasserlos . How this separation came about can no longer be determined due to a lack of sources. The building of the chapel, which was inaugurated on May 9, 1954, was important for the cohesion in the village.
