Weichenwasserlos is a village belonging to the town of Scheßlitz with 73 inhabitants (as of March 2005) in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .

One interpretation of the unusual name relates to the geological location ( for soft water loosening ), another to the Old High German term losi , losa , which denotes a levy or tax based on use.

history

In the years 802 to 804 the goods from "Wazerlosung" were handed over to the Fulda monastery for the first time . Weichenwasserlos is regarded as the original parish in the Bamberg region . In 1180 a separate pastor is documented. The current parish church was built around the year 1400 and last expanded and rebuilt in 1702/03.

On May 1, 1978, the place was incorporated into the city of Scheßlitz.

Parish Church of St. Martin

The church, built on an elevation on the edge of the road between Stübig and Weichenwasserlos, is considered an original parish and already existed around the year 800. The current parish church was built in three construction periods between the years 1400 and 1702/1703. Most recently, the Bamberg master builder Bonaventura Rauscher raised the nave and choir and built the tower anew.

Altar in St. Martin

The ceiling paintings date from the second half of the 18th century, the furnishings go back to 1721. The high altar is a joint work of carpenter Martin Walter and sculptor Leonhard Gollwitzer from Bamberg, who also created the other sculptures. The classicist tabernacle was made by Georg Hoffmann, the Ölberg relief from the early 19th century by Wilhelm Wurzer.
