Pünzendorf is located in a valley that connects to Giechburg and Gügel . Due to the protected location, fruit growing has developed around the place. The Pünzendorfer cherries are particularly well known.

In the Middle Ages, Pünzendorf was initially the seat of a Bamberg servant, and since the 13th century a Meran ministerial .

In 1359 a Hermann von Pünzendorf was named as Vogt in Krögelstein .

In 2004, Pünzendorf hit the headlines when a marijuana plantation with 300 well-grown marijuana plants was discovered between Pünzendorf and Neudorf on the northern edge of the Krippenholz .
