Ludwag
Ludwag is an old village in the Bamberg district that has belonged to the city of Scheßlitz since the regional reform in 1978 . In March 2005 Ludwag had 145 inhabitants.

Ludwag is located on a hill on the road that leads from Scheßlitz to Heiligenstadt . Below the village is an extensive disused limestone quarry. The Gügel pilgrimage church is located on a mountain near Ludwag . The neighboring villages are Neudorf, Poxdorf, Kübelstein and Zeckendorf.

The name of the place is of Slavic origin (lud = 'people', wach = 'watch').

Presumably belonged Ludwag to the sites of Slavic churches , the Charlemagne in 793 as part of the Slavs Mission was founded by around 790 the Bishop of Wurzburg Berowulf commissioned, 14 mission churches for the Christianized Slavs of Main and Regnitz to build, but their position best can only be guessed.
The first documentary mention was only in the year 1061, when the place was given to the bishopric of Bamberg . In 1112 it was the manor of the Baron von Ludunbach.
On May 1, 1978, the place was incorporated into the city of Scheßlitz.

A former quarry belongs to Ludwag, which is gradually being renatured . The nickname Staa-Beißer ( high German : Stein-Beißer ) comes from this quarry .
In the Sat 1 crime series Der König , episode Herz aus Gold, with Günter Strack , the quarry served as the backdrop for the final scene in 1994.
In August 2009, it served as the backdrop for guitarist Chris Mike's music video Zorro .
