history
Until the church is planted
The place belonged to the Ilmmünster Abbey, founded in the 8th century . The celebration of the 1250th anniversary in 1996 was not based on a historically precisely traceable date, but on an inherited tradition, according to which the creation can be traced back to the founding year 746. This year is now being questioned by historical research.
The monastery seems to have only been independent for a short time and soon became dependent on the Tegernsee Monastery . The Ilmmünster monastery can be shown to have existed until the beginning of the 10th century, but it must have fallen a few decades later - but not due to the looting and devastation of the Hungarians in 955, as was claimed in older literature. The Ilmmünster possessions were passed to secular landlords in the following decades. Between 1048 and 1068 the Benedictine monastery had already been converted into a collegiate monastery. If the Babenbergs owned the monastery for some time, then in 1077 the Wittelsbachers appeared as heirs of the Ilmmünster bailiwick. Since 1180, when the Bavarian dukes were provided by the Wittelsbachers, they were also feudal lords and over the centuries they were closely associated with the monastery. The three-aisled basilica was built around 1200 - still a landmark of the place today.
The existing school at the monastery maintained a good education, the most famous representative of which was the monastery scholastic Konrad von Ilmmünster. With the granting of lower jurisdiction, Ilmmünster became a Hofmark in 1315. The decline of the monastery towards the end of the 15th century was indicated when Duke Albrecht IV wanted to upgrade the city of Munich and ordered the relocation of the Schliersee and Ilmmünster monasteries to Munich in order to be able to furnish the Church of Our Lady appropriately. The Bishop of Freising and the Canons of Ilmmünster protested unsuccessfully against the relocation.
Today's inn Eckert was until the dissolution of the Hofmark Ilmmünster (secularization) in 1803 the provost and seat of the court judges. The bailiff or bailiff collected the tax money and gave an account to the district judge of Pfaffenhofen, who had high jurisdiction. The Hofmark also included Ilmried, Riedermühle, Unterdummeltshausen, Hettenshausen and Webling.
The community from 1818
The significant changes at the beginning of the 19th century brought about a reorganization of the country's administration. The lowest units were the political communities, which were formed in 1808 and in today's form in 1818 ( community edict of 1818 ). The community of Ilmmünster came into being and initially went through a slow change. From the middle of the 20th century, modernization and mechanization gave the place a completely new character.

coat of arms
Blazon : "In blue two diagonally crossed silver crooks, covered at the intersection by a growing golden church tower with a stepped gable."
The Canons' Monastery, which was founded in the early Middle Ages, was of great importance for Ilmmünster's history. After the transfer of the pen to the collegiate monastery at Munich Cathedral (1494), the latter was the determining factor in the development of the place as manorial power. An impressive monument to this is the building of the Arsatius Church , which still dominates the community today, with the characteristic stepped gable. The coat of arms represents the guidelines of the local history by combining the heraldic stylized tower with stepped gable with the reference to the manorial rule of the monastery (crooks). The colors silver and blue also indicate that the House of Wittelsbach as the Bavarian sovereign rulership had been in close contact with Ilmmünster since the 12th century . In 1969 Max Reinhart from Passau made the draft of a new municipal coat of arms. It was approved by the General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives on July 22, 1970. |
