The MaK G 320 B is a two-axle diesel - hydraulic locomotive from the manufacturer Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) for works railways. It can be seen as a further development of the MaK 240 B and is the smallest of the locomotives manufactured by the manufacturer with a cardan shaft . They are only permitted on factory tracks, only one locomotive, the one with serial number 220090 from 1967, has a number in the German vehicle settings register (98 80 0265).
development
As a further development of the MaK 240 B, this locomotive was built at MaK in Kiel from 1965 . Compared to its predecessor, the new locomotive was designed as a two-axle locomotive with a cardan shaft drive and in the first series with a Hurth gearbox . Shortly after commissioning, the first malfunctions appeared, which particularly affected the transmission.
The construction was then revised. The locomotives delivered from 1967 had a gearbox from Voith . A total of six machines of this revised variant were delivered. Some of the locomotives were delivered to companies in the steel industry in Luxembourg or as a replacement for locomotives from the 1st delivery series.
In 1974, after a further revision, the last series followed, which was specially tailored for the Krupp-Stahl-AG plant in Bochum . This company was also the only customer. The difference compared to the previously delivered machines was the weaker motorization with a motor from KHD and the use of a flow reversing gear .
This locomotive is the smallest representative of the second generation of MaK and Vossloh locomotives . The designation scheme expressed the type of power transmission, the power program (roughly the engine power) and the axle sequence.
technology
The construction of the series has been designed for the needs of light route, handover and shunting services . Like their predecessors, they are built on a frame welded with rolled profiles. They have a longer front end for the machinery and a shorter front end for various auxiliary services. The driver's cab is in between.
A Mercedes-Benz engine with 252 and 259 kW output was used as the drive motor for the first two delivery series, and a KHD diesel engine with only 204 kW for the last series . The gearbox of the first delivery series was supplied by Hurth and did not prove itself. In the second delivery series, a gearbox from Voith with a shunting gear for 33 km / h and a cross gear for 60 km / h was used, in the third delivery series a gearbox from Voith with only one gear for 33 km / h top speed was installed.
commitment
The locomotives were sold to railway companies such as Jülich Kreisbahn or Siegkreis-Eisenbahn and to steelworks such as Krupp-Stahl-AG for light shunting . The locomotives of the 2nd series were all sold to steelworks in Luxembourg. The locomotives of the 3rd series received works from Krupp-Stahl-AG. Some locomotives were already scrapped in the 1980s, others were sold abroad. Two locomotives have been preserved: with the factory number 220090 at the Talbot wagon factory in Aachen and the factory number 220083 at the HAW Linings GmbH museum railway .
