With the construction of the Derneburg – Seesen railway , which was completed in 1887 to Bockenem and in 1889 to Seesen, Bornum received a railway connection through the establishment of a stop. However, the line was closed in 1990 for passenger and in 1995 also for goods traffic. It is still used occasionally by a museum railway and occasionally for the transport of goods.
