history

Jerze was first mentioned in 1143 under the name Jericho. The name is derived from a Konrad von Jeriche, who is said to have belonged to the East Westphalian nobility. In 1317 the village was sold to the Frankenberg monastery in Goslar. In 1587 Jerze became a "Frey-Dorf" meaning that the peasants did not have to serve their liege lords.

The St. Gertrud Church in Ambergau belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig .

The annual nativity play in a real barn and the Hubertus hunt are known beyond the borders of the Ambergau .

On March 1, 1974 Jerze, which belonged to the district of Gandersheim , was incorporated into the town of Bockenem.
