The class 22 steam locomotives were converted passenger locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

history

They were created between 1958 and 1962 as part of the reconstruction program from the 39.0-2 series locomotives . These had two major problems: the boiler did not generate enough steam and the steam paths were too winding, which significantly reduced the maximum output of the locomotive. A total of 85 units were equipped with a new combustion chamber boiler with a mixing preheater of the IfS type. The frame had to be extended to accommodate the new steam generator. Due to the wider rear boiler , the cab was given a modified front wall. The locomotives had the road numbers 22 001-085 and were mainly based in the Reichsbahndirektion Dresden and Erfurt . The Deutsche Reichsbahn also used the locomotives in the heavy express train service in the plans for the 01 series , but this led to an overload of the original components and thus to frame cracks and piston damage. This and the electrification in the Saxon area that began in the early 1960s led to the locomotives being withdrawn from service early.

22 064 in the BEM in Nördlingen . The obstacle to a complete assembly of the locomotive is the missing linkage.

In 1968 50 of the 85 Recoke boilers of the 22 series were used for the reconstruction of the 03 series to the 03.10 series.

In 1970 the remaining locomotives were assigned to the 39.10 series in the new EDP-compatible numbering scheme . However, in 1970 only a few machines were still in use in Halberstadt and Saalfeld. The last locomotive was parked as early as 1971. Until the early 1990s, nine locomotives served as stationary steam generators.

The vehicles were Tender senders equipped types of 2'2 'T 32 or 2'2' T 34th
