The Reichsbahndirektion Erfurt was an administrative district of the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

The area of ​​this Reichsbahndirektion covered large parts of Thuringia . The area around Altenburg and Greiz was not included . Until 1945 , the eastern border of the direction was the line Marxgrün – Triptis – Gera – Zeitz – Weißenfels, which still belongs to Erfurt. In the north the area was bounded by the Halle – Sangerhausen – Nordhausen – Leinefelde route, which did not belong to Erfurt. In the south, the management was also responsible for the routes in the Bavarian Coburg area to the entrance signal from Lichtenfels . About 110 railway lines belonged to the Rbd Erfurt. Some areas around Gera were given to the Rbd Dresden in 1955 and came back to the Rbd Erfurt in 1976.

With the construction of the Thuringian Railway in 1846, Erfurt became the headquarters of the Thuringian Railway Company . In 1879 it became one of the 11 railway directorates of the Prussian State Railways, which were then reorganized as part of the nationalization wave . The takeover of the Thuringian Railway by the Prussian State Railways was completed on May 1, 1882. In 1920, when the Prussian State Railways were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the "Reichsbahndirektion Erfurt" was created, which was dissolved on December 31, 1993 as part of the formation of the Deutsche Bahn AG .
