Note: This article mainly consists of locomotives that were used by the former Tasmanian Government Railways and the previous private railroad companies that have been merged into the TGR. Locomotives from Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co. , North East Dundas Tramway , Emu Bay Railway, and other railways are not yet included.

- 2 "M" class (4-4-2 + 2-4-4), built by Beyer, Peacock. The only eight-cylinder Garratts in the world: M1 set a world speed record for Garratts of 55 mph (88 km / h) in 1912. These locomotives were designed for speeds in excess of 60 mph (97 km / h).
