List of locomotives of the kk priv. Austria-Hungarian state railway company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The kk priv. Austria-Hungarian State Railroad Company (StEG) (Hungarian: Cs. K. Szab. Osztrák (-Magyar) Államvasúttársaság (ÁVT) ) arranged its locomotives in several schemes. The first scheme from 1858 had no series designation; this was implemented in the second scheme from 1873. The third scheme was implemented in 1897 after the Hungarian lines were ceded to MÁV in 1891.

First scheme in 1858

The StEG's first locomotive designation scheme from 1858 did not have any series or series, but it arranged the passenger and freight locomotives in different number groups. The passenger and express train locomotives were originally given numbers below 300, the freight locomotives above. The system was softened in 1868 by No. 299, which actually belonged to the freight locomotives. The locomotives taken over from the Hungarian Central Railway (UZB), the Vienna-Raab Railway (WRB), the kk Nördliche Staatsbahn (NStB) and the kk Südostliche Staatsbahn (SöStB) were clearly also included in this scheme.

Since almost all numbers under 299 were assigned, a new scheme was implemented in 1873.

Second scheme 1873

Since the first designation scheme had reached its limits, the StEG decided to introduce a new scheme in 1873. On this occasion, a kind of series designation was introduced, but it should be understood more as a category, i.e. H. Locomotives of the same category are not necessarily identical, but can be used for similar activities. Basically there were categories I, II, III, IV, V and VI, whereby I and II were express locomotives with two driven axles, III passenger locomotives with one or two driven axles, IV – VI freight locomotives with three, four or five driven axles. These categories have been further subdivided with appended lower case letters. Within these, there were still distinctions with indices (e.g .: IVa ', IVc "or IVf ).

When the Hungarian lines of the StEG were nationalized in 1891, some of the locomotives came to MÁV . In order to do justice to this fact, the StEG introduced the third designation scheme for the remaining vehicles in 1897.

Third scheme 1897

In 1891 the Hungarian lines of the StEG were nationalized and some of the locomotives came to MÁV . In order to do justice to this fact, the StEG introduced the third designation scheme for the remaining vehicles in 1897. The scheme knew two- or three-digit serial numbers and two-digit serial numbers. Branch line vehicles were given three-digit serial numbers (as early as 1882), with 200 numbers denoting two-couplers and 300 numbers three-way coupled locomotives. Row number and serial number were strung together, with no separation, for example, by a point or a space. Design differences within a row were made possible by the fact that the first design received serial numbers from 01 upwards, the second from 51 upwards.

With the nationalization of the Austrian routes in 1909 (effective January 1, 1908), the kkStB included the StEG traction vehicles in its portfolio.
