The StEG II 257–285 were steam locomotives of the Staats-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (StEG), a private Austrian-Hungarian railway company .

The total of 29 machines were created by converting older 1B machines, all of which were originally supplied by the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik , and from new builds. The renovation was carried out in the StEG workshop in Pest from 1862 to 1876. The numbers 377, 381, 402, 403, 408, 411, 412, 416, 419–421, 424–426, 428–431, 433–437 and 423 of the first StEG designation scheme and 242 and 255 of the second scheme have been converted . There were also three new buildings (264, 281 and 282) of the Pest workshop.

In the designation scheme of 1873, the machines were assigned the numbers 257–285 and the category IVr. In 1891 15 locomotives came to MÁV as 1286-1300 , which they designated as the 252 class from 1911 onwards.
