The steam locomotive series StEG 26 was an express train - steam locomotive series of the Staats-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (StEG), a private Austrian-Hungarian railway company .
Since the three-cylinder compound locomotives StEG series Ie (later StEG 25 , kkStB 506 ) did not prove themselves , the StEG continued to build 2B wet steam twin engines. However, the locomotives received a more powerful boiler than the comparable kkStB series ( 6 and 106 ). A total of 16 of these locomotives, known as the 26 series , were delivered by StEG's own factory .
After the nationalization of the StEG in 1909, the 16 machines at the kk Austrian State Railways (kkStB) were named 406.01–16 . After the First World War , 14 of these came to ČSD as series 264.2 , which they retired by 1938. However, two locomotives of this series came to MÁV as the 227 series after the Second World War .
