The MB 280 N is a two-axle diesel - hydraulic locomotive made by Orenstein & Koppel for use in shunting services and on works railways. From 1972 to 1980 a total of 22 locomotives were manufactured in the Dortmund-Dorstfeld plant. The MB 280 N is thus the most frequently sold shunting locomotive Orenstein & Koppel in the 1970s.
Customers were the municipal utilities of various municipalities and various companies, including Ford , Procter & Gamble and Hoechst . One locomotive each went to the Netherlands , Switzerland and Italy . Meanwhile the Mittelweserbahn also used an MB 280 N. The area of responsibility of the locomotives extends from the shunting service of wagons on the factory premises to the implementation of handover trips on sidings to the nearest freight traffic point, where the wagons are lined up in regular freight trains.
Numerous machines are still in use today, so the locomotive type also has a number in the UIC vehicle settings register , this is 98 80 0 128 xxx-x .
