The Mittelweserbahn GmbH (MET) is a 1998 railway company (PSC), based in Bruchhausen-Vilsen . In September 2013 the company lost its independence and was integrated into the logistics division of the railways and transport company Elbe-Weser (EVB).

Business areas

MWB provides transport services with standard-gauge locomotives in Germany and neighboring countries, both in freight transport and in construction train services. Over forty diesel and electric locomotives of various sizes are available for this, including the first newly built electric locomotive in Germany 1116 911 (Taurus) bought by a private railway . In addition, shipments with oversized loading dimensions are carried out for the wind turbine manufacturer Enercon .

The company was best known for the Ecco Cargo Austria , a freight train network specially designed for individual wagons and groups of wagons , whose main route runs several times a week from Bremen via Cologne, Darmstadt, Bamberg, Fürth, Donauwörth to Salzburg (-Hallein). The main run, together with the distribution traffic, forms the MWB-Net , which is operated with several partner and subsidiary companies. It is the only alternative in wagonload traffic of private railways to DB Cargo .

Holdings

The company works with other railway companies. MWB held 85% of the capital of the railway forwarding company Salzburger Eisenbahn Transportlogistik (SETG) until 2010 . MWB has further stakes in, among others, Rhein-Weser-Bahnspedition GmbH and MWB Bahnlogistik GmbH, as well as in the Grafschaft Hoya public transport company . It is also about the Weser course GmbH with the Bremer Straßenbahn connected. It is involved in the Bremen-Lower Saxony railway network (EBN).

history

The Mittelweserbahn was founded on November 26, 1998 by four members of the German Railway Association , which operates the first German museum railway in Bruchhausen-Vilsen. In 2008 the GmbH had 145 employees.

MWB 1020 041 in Laufach

On the 5.4 kilometers long and 20 per thousand steep Spessart ramp, push service for heavy freight trains from private railways was offered between 2004 and 2012 . The former ÖBB locomotive 1020 041 (crocodile) , weighing 120 tons, was used for this purpose. Due to the expiry of the deadline and the reduced use of the service, this was discontinued on March 15, 2012. In the Franconian Forest , too, a pushing locomotive was temporarily made available in Pressig-Rothenkirchen .

On January 1, 2006, Stahlberg Roensch (SR) from Seevetal, now part of the Vossloh Group, took part in MWB. SR has more than sixty years of tradition as a railway-oriented specialist company that welds rails into long rails. On September 20, 2010, the railways and transport company Elbe-Weser acquired the SR shares and thus took over the majority of the Mittelweserbahn. The company founders Hans-Peter Kempf (5%), who remained managing director, and Christian Speer (0.73%) still held minority shares. EVB took over their shares as well as the management on August 31, 2013, to which MWB has belonged since then.
