CTL Logistics is a private Polish railway company . CTL was founded in 1992 by Jarosław Pawluk and over the course of 20 years has developed into the largest competitor of the former monopoly company PKP Cargo . The company, initially trading as the Vector Union , later renamed Chem Trans Logistic (CTL), developed quickly. From 1997 the rail network was also used for the transport of chemicals. Customs agencies have been set up at border crossings and ports. From 2003 the company acquired its own railway fleet; The first locomotives of the PKP series ET22 were purchased in Morocco . In 2004, together with the German provider Rail4Chem, private companies offered cross-border chemical goods transport by rail for the first time. CTL has also been allowed to travel to Ukraine since 2005.

In 2007 Pawluk sold 75% of the company for 1.4 billion zloty to the British financial investor Bridgepoint Capital ; 25% remained in his property. At that time, CTL Logistics (formerly: Chem Trans Logistic Holding Polska SA ) was the largest private railway company in Poland and number 5 among private providers in Europe. The transaction was financed by Commerzbank and ING . The new owner saw potential in CTL to become the largest private provider in European rail freight transport. At the time of the sale, CTL had around 150 locomotives and almost 5000 wagons. With around 2500 employees (including around 400 locomotive drivers), sales of around 250 million euros were achieved in 2006. CTL mainly transported chemicals, coal and oil as well as cement. Customers include the Total refinery in Leuna . CTL supplied 60,000 tons of cement from Łódź for the construction work for the new DHL building at Leipzig / Halle Airport .
