Tomasz Czechowicz (* 1970 ) is a Polish entrepreneur and investor. As chairman of the board of directors, he heads the holding company MCI Capital SA, which he established, and is one of the richest Poles. His fortune was estimated at around 123 million euros in the annually updated list of riches of the Polish edition of Forbes magazine in 2015, placing him 61st place on this list.

Life

Tomasz Czechowicz is a graduate of the Technical University and the University of Economics in Wroclaw . He holds a postgraduate MBA from Warsaw University of Economics and Business and the University of Minnesota .

In 1990 he founded what would later become JTT Computer SA , which he managed until 1998. JTT Computer was one of the most important Polish computer manufacturers of the time. The company sold devices under the “Adax” brand and realized sales of up to 110 million euros. JTT Computer was later wound up as a result of a dispute with the Polish tax authorities. In 2000, tax evasion proceedings were initiated against JTT , in the course of which an account was attached . For years, a legal dispute over various instances resulted in the previous owners of JTT being compensated millions of euros over the VAT problem, which arose from the contradicting regulation of the taxation of computers for school use and which led to the discontinuation of the company was awarded.

In 1998, Czechowicz founded the holding company MCI , which he has headed ever since. The entrepreneur has received several awards. In 2000, he was listed in the top 10 of the Business Week ranking of the most influential people in the European internet industry. In 2001 he received the title “Global Leader for Tomorrow” at the World Economic Forum in Davos .

MCI Capital

The holding company MCI Capital SA , founded in 1998, manages several investment funds that focus primarily on the allocation of risk capital in the IT sector: MCI.EuroVentures (expansion, buy-out), MCI.TechVentures ( growth , expansion), Helix Ventures Partners ( Seed Stage , Start-up), Internet Ventures (Early Stage, Growth), and MCI Gandalf Aktywnej Alokacji SFIO (Absolute Return). The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since February 2001 . By 2015, MCI had invested in around 60 companies through its funds and realized 30 exits. For the period from January 1, 199 to December 31, 2014, the company reported an IRR of 24%. MCI focuses on digital investments in the growth phase in Central and Eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Turkey as well as in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

According to Czechowicz, MCI is planning further investments in e-commerce services. The Russian and German markets are of particular interest. In February 2013, the company announced that it would acquire a stake in the German provider Windeln.de in order to develop this company into a European industry leader. Further investments by MCI in Germany are Auctionata , online auction house and mail order company for art , antiques and collectibles; 21Diamonds, on-line jeweler and AsGoodAsNew, specialist in refurbished and tested used electronics.
