The class ST43 locomotives of the Polish State Railways (PKP) are diesel locomotives primarily for the transport of freight trains .
PKP series ST43
From 1965 the PKP purchased locomotives of the type 060DA, which had been built since 1959, from the Romanian locomotive factory Electroputere . This was based on licenses from three Swiss companies: Sulzer (diesel engine), BBC (electrical part) and SLM (mechanical part) and had previously been supplied to the Romanian Railways as the 60 series . In contrast to these, the locomotives of the ST43 series received the large headlights customary for the PKP.
From 1965 to 1978 the PKP 422 were given ST43, with a new engine type being used from ST43-156. The locomotives from STST43-278 were prepared for the acceptance of automatic central buffer couplings and therefore a little longer and heavier.
Due to the lack of train heating, the field of application of the ST43 series is largely limited to freight traffic, but they are also used with passenger trains , especially in summer . Parallel to the ST43 series (and also after the end of procurement), the ST44 series was procured for the same area of application .
Most of the ST43 series has already been taken out of service, in 2004 there were still 164 locomotives in the PKP's portfolio and in use throughout the country.
Type 060DA on other railways
In addition to the aforementioned series 60, the CFR received similar series 62 locomotives , which were converted into series 65 and 63 from 2004 . Locomotives from CFR's holdings were sold to Polish and German private railways such as B. the ChemTransLogistics and the Karsdorfer Eisenbahngesellschaft . From 1979 to 1990 379 locomotives were delivered to China under the designation ND2.
